When it comes to maintaining your home, there are two time-honored approaches
- Leave it alone until it breaks (reactive)
- Prevent repairs with regular maintenance (proactive)
Arguments can be made that either approach saves money. Whichever approach you prefer, there are more reasons to do regular home maintenance than saving money.
Why is home maintenance so important?
It’s all too easy for things to start looking a little ragged, which isn’t too far from starting to look a bit neglected or run down. Your home is a source of pride and comfort. It should look good.
A well-maintained house runs more smoothly. Appliances and systems work as they should, giving you and your guests a comfortable, safe, and welcoming space to enjoy.
- Long-term investment
Your house is probably your largest single investment. If you expect to move at some point, you would like to realize a profit. Realtors say that a well-maintained home is easier to sell – and at a better price – than one that “needs work”.
Folks who have recently put their house on the market will tell you that the expense (and time and effort) of “catching up” on maintenance tasks so the home is at its saleable best can be overwhelming. When you already have your hands full preparing to move, do you really want to catch up on all the routine tasks?
- Insurance claims
Accidents and natural disasters do happen. It is the preventable problems that can be most painful, though. Insurance agents say that many home claims are directly due to preventable failures (water damage leading the list).
- Happier marriage
If you and your spouse disagree on whether or how to maintain your home, it can be an ongoing energy drain for you. Counselors say that a relationship where one spouse is nagging the other can be stressful – for both parties.
You might already be doing home maintenance tasks because you enjoy them or at least believe it to be a good thing to do. Or you might be ready to consider doing some home maintenance tasks at some level but aren’t quite sure how to go about it.
We can help. We have created a schedule of home maintenance tasks and spread them out in calendar format so you can work through them over the course of a year.
Why would we do this? Because we have met lots of folks like you who care about keeping their homes nice. They want to do home maintenance at a level that is comfortable for them. They also want to have experts available when the task is something they don’t want to do – for whatever reason.
